Written Concept
The goal of my art work that I am creating is to show the strong relationship between the sister cities/sister schools of Naryn and Gainesville. I want the person who is looking at my artwork to feel like they can see the bond between these cities. I also want them to think about all the other sister cities/sister schools that Gainesville has to offer. The artwork is going to be 6ft tall and 14ft wide. The materials that are being used are wood for the poles pbc pipes for the yurk and paint for the patterns. The location I want this piece of artwork to be in is at PK somewhere around the new building. If the artwork is not at Pk then maybe somewhere in Naryn.
Letter to the Mayor
Dear Mayor Lauren Poe,
Hi, my name is Mallory Dassa. I’m a 8th grade student at P.K. Yonge, and I am designing a work of installation art to represent the friendship between Gainesville and Naryn.
I’d like to propose a large sculpture, approximately six feet high, fourteen feet wide, and 3 feet deep – the same height as a person so they can relate to the artwork. This wood sculpture, in the for of two poles one to represent Naryn by having the shardak pattern on it and the other pole to represent Gainesville by having a Florida gator on it. In the middle of the to poles is a yurk to show the connection of the to cities. Please see the attached drawings for more detail. The sculpture would be wood to standout from all the other sculptures in the Gainesville area, while also being strong and resistant to weather.
Ideally, the sculpture would be installed prominently in Gainesville and in Naryn. The Sister Cities Pavilion in front of City Hall, Pk, or Naryn would be perfect locations. Please see the attached visualizations.
I hope my artwork will inspire citizens of Gainesville to learn about Naryn. I hope that it will be a physical reminder of our friends in other countries. When someone looks at it, I hope they think about how big the world is, and how we have friends on the other side of the world that want to meet us and share their culture with us.
Thank you for your consideration,
Mallory Dassa
