Written Concept
A man jumping through a ring symbolyzing one side being gainesville and the other being Fundacio. it the poll holding up the ring will be 6ft tall. thering wil be 5ft wide. It will be made out of metal. It will wheigh about 200 punds It will be in the Cade Museum or in the new building.
Letter to the Mayor
Dear Mayor Lauren Poe,
My name is Kain McDonald. I’m a 8th grade student at P.K. Yonge, and I am designing a work of installation art to represent the friendship between Gainesville and Santa Marta.
I’d like to propose a large sculpture if a man jumping through a hoop that. It is 9ft tall and 4ft wide. Just taller than a human being to inspire awe while remaining approachable. This sculpture would represent a man going from Gainesville to Santa Marta. Embodying the relationship between Santa Marta and Gainesville. Please see the attached drawings for more detail. The sculpture would be metal to be in line with most of the other sculptures around Gainesville, while also being strong and resistant to weather.
Ideally, the sculpture would be installed prominently in Gainesville and in Santa Marta. The Sister Cities Pavilion in front of City Hall or Bo Diddley plaza would be perfect locations. Please see the attached visualizations.
I hope my artwork will inspire citizens of Gainesville to learn about Santa Marta. I hope that it will be a physical reminder of our friends in other countries. When someone looks at it, I hope they think about how big the world is, and how we have friends on the other side of the world that want to meet us and share their culture with us. It will bring our cities closer together, it will celebrate our friendship, and it will make the world at once more wondrous and more accessible to the people of Santa Marta and Gainesville.
