Written Concept
The inspiration for this artwork came from how I have never heard of this country before and then getting to know people from this country and know a lot about this country a short period of time. It came from the interest in learning about this new country. The poles have designs to represent the country with the flags in between to represent the relationship between the two. I want someone to feel like learning about a new country and get intersect right there at that moment. I want them to start getting interested and learn about the country right there. The height of the design is 10 feet by 10 feet. The materials is a heavy strong metal that will stay up in strong storms and wont fall down easily. The meaning behind this design is to make someone want to learn and get interested in learning about new country’s. The primary location would be somewhere were people go to learn like either school or the natural history museum. One other place this could be at is either places city hall.
Letter to the Mayor
Dear Mayor Lauren Poe,
Hello, my name is Emma Mansfield. I’m a 7th grade student at P.K. Yonge, and I am designing a work of installation art to represent the friendship between Gainesville and Naryn.
I’d like to propose a large sculpture, approximately ten feet high, ten feet – This metal sculpture, in the form of two poles with designs to represent Gainesville and naryn the two flags in between the two poles to represent the relationship between Gainesville and naryn. Please see the attached drawings for more detail. The sculpture would be metal to stay up in strong weather and wont fall down easily.
Ideally, the sculpture would be installed prominently in Gainesville and in Naryn. The two schools would be a perfect place to put the design. Both city halls would be great places as well. In Gainesville the natural history museum would also be a good place to put the design. Places where people go to learn is a good place for my design. Please see the attached visualizations.
I hope my artwork will inspire citizens of Gainesville to learn about Naryn. I hope that it will be a place where people get inspired to learn and want to learn about Naryn. I want people to want to learn about Naryn when they look at it, i want them to get inspired like I did and learn about a new country they have never heard about. It will bring our cities closer together, it will celebrate our friendship, and it will make the world at once more wondrous and more accessible to the people of Naryn and Gainesville.
Thank you for your consideration,
Emma Mansfield
