[Anderson, Isabella] Fundación Tinguacó Installation Art

Written Concept

The inspiration from the art comes from my love for anime, representing the difference between what we watch and experience. I want some that views my art, to know how much effort I will put into it. It is around 6 feet high, I don’t know how heavy though. The materials will be recycled stuff from our local Re purpose Project. The form is a basic safe call. The location would be near the parking lot of PKY, Its relatively small, so it wont be costly. The alternative would be in a not so busy place.

Letter to the Mayor

Dear Mayor Lauren Poe,

My name is Isabella Anderson. I’m an 8th grade student at P.K. Younge, and I am designing a work of installation art to represent the friendship between Gainesville and Tinguaco. The representation is showed by two statues, on either side of a mirror, looking in, while they look out at us.

I’d like to propose one small design, approximately six feet high, six feet wide, and two feet deep – just taller than a human being to inspire awe while remaining approachable. This would be made out of wood. Please see the attached drawings for more detail. This sculpture is showing how far apart, but also how close we can be. -Isabella Sonia Anderson

[Harloff, Chris] Fundación Tinguacó Installation Art

The board used to make the bracelets they make at Fundación Tinguacó. WHY. MORE.

Letter to the Mayor

Dear Mayor Lauren Poe,

My name is Chris Harloff. I’m an 8th grade student at P.K. Yonge, and I am designing a work of installation art to represent the friendship between Gainesville and Fundación Tinguacó.

I’d like to propose a large board, similar to the ones used to make the bracelets made at Fundación Tinguacó, approximately 5 feet tall, 7 feet wide, and 14 feet long, made of metal and plywood. There is nothing to really represent Gainesville, but that is to make people want to learn more about our sister school.

Ideally, the sculpture would be installed in Gainesville only. Hopefully somewhere near depot, or even on the pk campus would be nice.

I hope my artwork will inspire citizens of Gainesville to learn about Fundación Tinguacó. I hope that it will be a physical reminder of our friends in other countries. When someone looks at it, I hope they think about how big the world is, and how we have friends on the other side of the world that want to meet us and share their culture with us. It will bring our cities closer together, it will celebrate our friendship, and it will make the world at once more wondrous and more accessible to the people of Colombia and Gainesville.

Thank you for your consideration,

Chris harloff

The best part about this too is it will be a sigh of unity between the two city’s and also this will be a good thing for us all to show we are in harmony with other city we could also become a sister city with Mejdlaya.

And that we will it can also start trade between Gainesville and Mejdlaya we will be in touch and people might visit Mejdlaya and the other way around.

Letter to the Mayor

Dear Mayor Lauren Poe,

My name is Thomas Jay Romaraog. I’m an 7th grade student at P.K. Yonge, and I am designing a work of installation art to represent the friendship between Gainesville and Nanjing.

I’d like to propose a large trophy-built like, approximately 20 feet high, 10 feet wide, and 3 feet deep – making it big for enough people to identify the artwork. This sculpture is made out of concrete and metal, in the form of a trophy with two sides, a Nanjing side (to represent Nanjing) and a Gainesville side (to represent Gainesville), would represent how Gainesville and Nanjing are on different sides, but on the same block. Please see the attached drawings for more detail. The sculpture would be fashioned from metal and concrete to keep the sculpture stable.

Ideally, the sculptures would be installed prominently in both Gainesville and Nanjing. The Sister Cities Pavilion in the front-side of P.K. Yonge’s new building. The proposed location in Nanjing is yet to be determined. Please see the attached visualizations.

I hope my artwork will inspire citizens of Gainesville to learn about Nanjing and China. I hope that it will be a physical reminder of our friends in other countries. When someone looks at it, I hope they think about how big the world is, and how we have friends on the other side of the world that want to meet us and share their culture with us. It will bring our cities closer together, it will celebrate our friendship, and it will make the world at once more wondrous and more accessible to the people of Nanjing and Gainesville.

[Long, Mason] NJEIS Installation Art

Written Concept

My new idea is too have the park but to add the njeis logo to the corners but not were the chairs are. Those are just there for decoration not to be played on but if you do play on them play at your own risk. I also got rid of the skull because the skull does not represent anything and it did not look like it would be easy to play on.

Letter to the MayorDear Mayor Lauren Poe,

Hello Dr. Lynda Hayes,

My name is Mason Long. The goal of my artwork is to bring people together to have fun, hang out, and just have a good time. Something that inspired me to make this artwork was that I want to bring people together to have a good time and not to fight or be at war with anyone, and for everyone to get along. I want someone that sees the artwork to play on it and say that it is a good piece of work. I made it the size I did because I wanted it to be big enough to play on and not be just a small piece of artwork. I chose the materials that I did because I want it to be safe and I also want it to be functional. I made it like this because I wanted to represent Gainesville and NJEIS, and I made it like that for safety and strength. I am thinking of putting it in the front of the NJEIS where there is a patch of grass, I am thinking about putting it there because it is just an empty piece of land. It would also work in the empty field behind the I-wing building where the after-school is. Something that has to be done to put this here is that we need to clear a spot for it like cut the grass etc. My design should be built because I like it when children play together and have a good time. For pky it will add a spot for the kindergartners to play because they play at the anchor at the roundabout in the front and it would be nice if they had a spot to play. For the students it’ll just make their recess time even more fun. I hope it will affect the future by making people more happy because they had fun.

Thanks for your consideration

[Sanchez, Adriana] Duhok Installation Art

Written Concept

The inspiration of this artwork comes from the idea that there should be more people educated about other places and cultures around the world. My artwork is going to be a wall with a gator deeply engraved on one side and a wild goat deeply engraved on the other side. In the middle of the statue there is going to be a window that you can look through and see the other city from a live video feed. The gator represents Gainesville because they are a big part of Gainesville and the wild goat represents Duhok. I want somebody who is viewing the artwork to want to learn more about other cultures around the world. For the size of the artwork I want it to be 4-7ft tall, 3-5ft wide, and 7 inches deep, so it is on the bigger side. The materials I want to use are carve able marble or metal, cameras for the window, and unbreakable glass panes. For the location, I want to put it in Depot Park and Gali Park or Azadi Park in Duhok. If it can’t go in those places any park would work fine. I chose a park because I think that it will bring more attention to the artwork.

Letter to the Mayor

Dear Mayor Lauren Poe,

My name is Adriana Sanchez. I’m an 7th grade student at P.K. Yonge, and I am designing a work of installation art to represent the relationship between Gainesville and Duhok.

The idea for my sculpture is for it to be seven feet tall, five feet wife, and seven inches deep. So it is taller than the average person, and so you can see it. I want my sculpture to be made out of concrete so it is sturdy, stable, and resistant to weather. My artwork is going to be in the shape of a wall with the measurements stated above. On one side there is going to be a gator deeply engraved into it to represent Gainesville. On the other side there is going to be a wild goat deeply engraved in it to represent Duhok. In the middle of my sculpture there is going to be a window where you can see other people looking at the same sculpture in the sister city. For example, if someone in Duhok and someone in Gainesville look threw the window they will see a live feed of the sculpture in their sister city. Please look at the attached drawings for better understanding.

I would like the sculpture to be installed in Gainesville and Duhok. I think the area right in front of the play area at Depot Park or the Sister Cities Pavilion in front of City Hall would be perfect locations for my artwork. Please see the attached visualizations.

I hope my artwork will inspire people in both sister cities to learn more about there sister cities and maybe one day come visit. I hope that my sculpture will remind people that they have friends on the other side of the world, and they are never alone. When someone looks at it I hope it drives them to learn more about there sister cities and the world around them. My artwork will celebrate are wonderful friendship that we have with Duhok, and it will teach people more about the world around them. It will also form a stronger bond and relationship then the one we started in 2006.

Adriana Sanchez

[Silva, Aaralyn] Kfar-Saba Installation Art

Written Concept

The goal of the artwork is to represent our Gainesville relationship with Kfar-Saba. The inspiration came from the greenery that surrounds us. The two circles represent both places in the world and the tree represents the growth in both places over time. I want someone that views the artwork to recognize the importance of being and or having a relationship with another place because them seeing this will make them want to research about it and possibly make a difference. The reason why I want this piece of art to be 9ft tall and about 6ft wide is so that way it is recognizable ad noticeable. I believe the materials I want to use for it is pretty practical and very safe. I want this piece of art be safe enough for kids and is weather resistant. There isn’t really a meaning behind the shape of it itself but I tried to make it safe and strong enough to withstand the weather. The artwork enhances the surroundings by not only the way it looks but by the way it could possibly make people feel. I think it could also work next to bo diddly plaza or a park. This piece of art I believe could be used in many different places.

Letter to the Mayor

Dear Mayor Lauren Poe,

My name is Aaralyn Silva. I’m an 7th grade student at P.K. Yonge, and I am designing a work of installation art to represent the friendship between Gainesville and Kfar-Saba.

I’d like to propose large twin sculptures, approximately nine feet high, six feet wide – just about taller than a human being to inspire people to be amazed while intriguing them to research more. This aluminum sculpture, in the form of two places being connected by a tree (to represent Kfar-Saba), would embody the growing relationship between Kfar-Saba and Gainesville that began in 1997. Please see the attached drawings for more detail. The sculpture would be very inspiring and I believe for it to be a uplifting stance on representing our relationship for Gainesville/Kfar-Saba while also being strong and resistant to weather. (The symbols on this sculpture would be carved into the glass)

Ideally, the sculptures would be installed prominently in both Gainesville and Kfar-Saba. Near the Bo-Diddley Plaza area in Gainesville would be a perfect location. The proposed location in Kfar-Saba is yet to be determined. Please see the attached visualizations.

I hope my artwork will inspire citizens of Gainesville to learn about Mejdlaya and Lebanon. I hope that it will be a physical reminder of our friends in other countries. When someone looks at my art piece I want then to recognize the importance of these two places, whenever someone looks at the art they should want to learn more ad when they do it could possibly make some sort of difference over there in Kfar-Saba. It will bring our cities closer together, it will celebrate our differences and friendships, and it will make the world at once more wondrous and more accessible to the people of Kfar-Saba and Gainesville.

Thank you for your consideration,

[Cline, Bella] Duhok Installation Art

Written Concept

The inspiration from this artwork comes from the beauty of our sister cities and how much we are connected to them. When somebody looks at this artwork I want them to feel more connected to our sister cities around the world. The height of this installation art is 5 feet tall, the Earth is 1 foot 2 in tall, and the step is 7 in tall. The podium is 14 in wide and the Earth is 16 in wide. The installation art as a whole goes 1 ft back. The materials that I choose were cement, sheet metal, paint, brass, and then the materials it takes to actually make this art (like a bucket or a cement mold). The shape is a podium like base with a sphere (Earth) on top of it. When getting more in to detail, there is a brass name plate that has information about our sister cities on it, there is a mini statue of a Quail sitting on top of a gator placed on top of the Earth, there is a step at the base of the podium, and a two little markings on the Earth to show where Gainesville and Duhok are on the globe. The reason why I wanted to put a step at the bottom of this artwork is so that shorter kids (like toddlers) can still look at the art without having to have someone pick them up. The primary location for this piece of art would be at the Bo Diddley plaza in Gainesville and outside the Family mall in Duhok. There are lots of people of all different ages that go to Bo Diddley plaza and so it would gain interest of many different people. As an alternative location for Gainesville, the Sister cities pavilion would be a good option.

Letter to the Mayor

Dear Mayor Lauren Poe,
My name is Bella Cline and I am a 7th grade student at P.K. Yonge, and I am designing a work of installation art to represent the friendship between Gainesville and Duhok.
I’d like to propose a large sculpture, approximately 5 1/2 feet high, 14 inches wide, and 14 inches deep. Just around the size of an average persons height. This sculpture is made out of a few materials, the main ones consisting of sheet metal and concrete. This sculpture has a podium like shape made out of concrete holding up a hollow representation of earth on top of it.
When getting more in detail with this sculpture, there is a miniature Quail on top of a Gator, representing the Gator for Gainesville and the Quail for Duhok which would be placed on the top of the Earth. There is also a small engraving on the earth to mark where exactly Duhok is. On the podium you can find a metal plate that explains more in detail about Duhok and Gainesville’s Sister City relationship. To make sure that this sculpture is inclusive for everyone, I have included a small step about 7 inches tall and 16 inches wide for younger children you aren’t quite tall enough to see the whole sculpture.
Ideally, the sculpture would be installed prominently in Gainesville and Duhok. The perfect location for this sculpture would be at Bo Diddley Plaza here in Gainesville, I am still open to other locations such as The Sister Cities Pavilion in front of City Hall if need be. Please see the attached visualizations.
I hope my art work will inspire people to learn more about our Sister Cities and how close we are. I hope that it will be a physical reminder that brings joy to not only us, but to our friends around the world who we hope to meet in person one day. It will bring a sense of thankfulness and close the gab between us and other countries by knowing more and having more knowledge.
Thank you so much for your consideration,
Bella Cline
