[Santiago, Joseph] Naryn School No.8 Installation Art

Written Concept

The goal of this Artwork is to show the differences of culture from each place. The inspiration of the artwork comes from Mr. Ho, my Digital Art and Design Teacher. He made this all happen and without him we wouldn’t be able to be in contact with Naryn this year. The parts of this artwork represents the differences of food between these two places. The size is 30in high and 35in wide.. The material is going to be wood. The shape is going to be like a Dining table and both sides of the table there is going to be the most common food of each place.

Letter to the Mayor

Dear, Mayor Lauren Poe

My name is Joseph S Santiago. I’m a 8th grade student at P.K. Yonge, and I am designing a work of installation art to represent the friendship between Gainesville and Naryn.

I’d like to propose a large sculpture, approximately 30in high, and 35in wide. I want a person who see’s it to think that it’s a beautiful, magnificent sculpture. It is a wood sculpture and it has a form of a dining table. I have picked my sculpture to be a dining because I want to show the differences of food between the two places. I have picked wood because it’s one of the best materials for a sculpture like this. I have picked a Ding Table for the form because on one side of the table there is going to be PK Yonge/Gainesville most common food, on the other side of the table there is Naryn/ School No.8 most common food.  The idea behind this is that this sculpture is going to show how the two places are different. The primary location of this sculpture is going to be PK Yonge since that’s where this all started thanks to my Digital Art and Design Teacher Mr. Ho, otherwise known as Terrence Ho. An alternative location for this sculpture is Naryn itself at the Aga Khan Foundation Smart Park.

This design should be built because it shows the differences and the relationship between PK Yonge/Gainesville and Naryn/School No.8. This sculpture will teach the world about these two beautiful traditions of food from these places. This sculture will affect the future because it literally shows the future of different places having a good relationship with each other.

Thank You for your consideration,

Joseph S Santiago

[Pfaffly, Lucenia] NJEIS and PKY Installation Art

Written Concept

Blue chair made out of “blue waves” (wood) with NJEIS block on it and a panda/alligator.

Letter to the Mayor

Dear Lynda Hayes,

My name is Lucenia Pfaffly. I’m a 7th grade student at P.K. Yonge, and I designed a sculpture to represent the relationship between P.k yonge and NJEIS (a school a Nanjing, China)

I’d like to ask your permission for a medium sculpture, approximately 5.5 feet tall, 4 feet wide, and 6 feet long. Ideally, the sculpture would be installed within the PKY campus and somewhere in the NJEIS campus. here’s what I had in mind for the design:a wooden bench carved and painted to look like blue waves, with the NJEIS cube on it in a couple places and a panda/alligator (Florida/China) sitting on it. I would like to add a small metal sign explaining what it is, because not everyone will know about the relationship of NJEIS and PKY. my hope is that my sculpture will draw people attention with the cool design, and then hopefully people will read the informational metal sign and be able to learn about NJEIS and PKY.

Thank you for your consideration,

Lucenia Pfaffly.

[Bain, Jessica] Mejdlaya Installation Art

Written Concept

The state of my artwork is that it is in the shape of a cross kind of, but it is on its side and it has the names Gainesville and Mejdlaya but in Arabic. It would be about 6 ft tall and 5 /15 ft wide with concrete on bottom for support as a base. The materials I would use is metal or some type of wood that would be durable to wind and extreme weather. In conclusion, the location I would want it to be in is like in a park or somewhere in the middle of the town where everybody would see it.

Letter to the Mayor

Dear Mayor Lauren Poe,

My name is Jessica Bain. I’m an 8th grade student at P.K. Yonge, and I am designing a word of installation art to represent the friendship between Gainesville and Mejdlaya.

I’d like to purpose a large sculpture, approximately 6 feet high, 5 1/2 wide. Just taller than a human to inspire awe while remaining approachable. This metal sculpture, in the form of a cross with the colors red, green, and white(to represent Mejdlaya) and orange and blue(to represent Gainesville, this would embody the relationship between Gainesville and Mejdlaya that began in 2015. The sculpture would be metal to be in line with most of the other sculptures around Gainesville, while also being strong and resistant to weather.

Ideally, the sculpture would be installed prominently in Gainesville and Mejdlaya. The Sister Cities Kanapaha Veterans Memorial Park would be a perfect location.

I hope my artwork will inspire citizens of Gainesville to learn more about Mejdlaya. I hope that it will be a physical reminder of our friends in other countries. When someone looks at it, I hope they think about how big the world is, and how we have friends on the other side of the world that want to meet us and share their culture with us. It will bring our cities closer together, it will celebrate our friendship, and it will make the world at once more wondrous and more accessible to the people of Mejdlaya and Gainesville.

Thank you for your time,

Jessica Bain

[Watson, Rylee] Fundación Tinguacó Installation Art

Written Concept

The artwork that I chose was a mural made out of many pre-made bracelets, like the ones made in Tinguaco, to look like the P.K. Yonge logo, a blue wave.I want someone, when they see this, to be drawn in and look closer at exactly what this mural is made out of and make them wonder what the bracelets mean and hopefully learn more about our sister school.I plan for this mural to be about 5 feet wide and 4 feet tall.I plan for the back of this mural to be made out of a type of wood and the bracelets used to make the design would be made out of thread and beads. The shape of the blue wave represents PK and the bracelets represent Tinguaco. I would put the mural somewhere in or outside of the new middle/high school building. Another place I would put the mural is either in the elementary building, at the entrance to the school, by the offices.

The inspiration from the artwork came from the sister city relationship. It is  supposed to resemble two hands coming together to make a full  circle kind of like the teamwork to form the sister city relationship,my sculpture in 9 ft tall and 9 ft in width. The materials are wood and metal because they will last long and are strong. When someone sees the artwork i want it to remind them of how important it is to honor our sister city relationship. The meaning of the sculpture is how we work together to form and improve the sister city relationship. The artwork enhances the location,i think it fills it in and helps bring decoration to it.
