I want to make a piece of wood, on it painted pieces of plastic using the colors of Kyrgyzstan, A circle to represent a sun with a hole cut out and a palm tree in the middle, around the sun would be the dog tail symbol which means friendship. This should symbolize the friendship between Naryn and Gainesville.

Second letter to Mayor Lauren Poe,
Dear Mayor Laruen Poe,Â
My name is Paul Curry. I’m a 7th grade student at P.K Yonge, and I am designing a work of installation art to represent the friendship between Gainesville and Duhok.
I’d like to propose a sculpture 5 feet wide and 6 feet tall, the wall that is and on the wall there would be some painted plastic resembling something like a 3d flag. It would be a circle representing a sun with a palm tree inside, the color pallet is red and blue since Naryn’s flag colors are red and blue. and around the circle would be dog tails which symbolize friendship.
I hope my artwork helps to celebrate the friendship between Naryn and Gainesville.
Two hands holding a heart with a symbol at the middle.
Letter to the Mayor
Dear Mayor Tadeusz Ferenc,
My name is Fernando Tello. I’m a 6th grade student at P.K. Yonge, and I am designing a work of installation art to represent the friendship between Gainesville and Rzeszow.
I’d like to propose a sculpture in which there are two hands holding a heart with a symbol that I created. Approximately: Height = 10 inches – Width = 12 inches – Depth = 10 inches. The sculpture is made of recycled metal and has a support block, made of concrete, under the sculpture. Please see the 3D sculpture for more detail.
The sculpture will be placed in the Culture and Recreation Park. Please see the edited images for more detail. In Gainesville, the sculpture will be placed in a place near Bivens Cove. Please, see the edited images.
The inspiration comes from two symbols that represent the places that inspired the sculpture. The word Duhok literally translates to two mountains as the city lies nestled in a valley between two small mountain ranges. the gator represents gainesville. it is 4 feet tall and 6 feet wide because I did not want it to be too big or too small. I wanted it to enhance the space in Depot Park without being overpowering. I wanted to use wrought iron for the mountains and bronze for the gator because it would work the best.
Letter to the Mayor
Dear Mayor Lauren Poe,
My name is Felix Eliazar. I’m a 7th grade student at P.K. Yonge, and I am designing a work of installation art to represent the relationship between Gainesville and Duhok.Â
My proposal is a large sculpture, approximately 4 feet high, 7 feet wide, and 2 feet deep. This metal sculpture, in the form of two mountains (to represent Duhok) and alligator in front of them (to represent Gainesville). It would represent the relationship between Duhok and Gainesville that began in 2006. The sculpture would be metal (wrought iron and brass) to be in line with most of the other sculptures around Gainesville, while also being strong enough to withstand the weather. My goal is for the sculpture to be installed in Gainesville and in Duhok. The Sister Cities Pavilion in front of City Hall or Depot Park would be perfect locations in Gainesville.
I want my artwork to make people in Gainesville want to learn about Duhok, and people in Duhok to want to learn about Gainesville.
My name is Marcus Neiss Im a 6th grade student at P.K Yonge. I am making a sculpture for the relationship between Gainesville and Novorossiysk.
I will like to show you the sculpture that I have built for you it is seven feet high and four feet wide it is built out of metal. The shape of my sculpture is a hug shape and it represents peace, harmony and that the person looking at it is loved and welcomed.
I want people to look at my work like it means something to them and that I worked very hard on it. I want to show the relationship between Gainesville and Novorossiysk.
I was inspired to make this by my mom because she believes that everyone should be loved and welcomed. I want people to learn about Novorossiysk from looking at my sculpture.
Thank you
Marcus NeissÂ
Technical Sketch
Written concept
1. I got the inspiration to make this art work from my mother because she said to always be kind and respectful to people and make sure that they are welcome.
2. I want somebody to view my art work like it is there art work.
3. It is a specific size that way like 4 people can be in the hug for a picture or something.
4. I chose metal because if a heavy wind blew near or on the art work it can stay sturdy on the ground.
5. The meaning of the shape for my art work is because it means that you are welcome, loved and cared for.
6. My art work enhance the surroundings by being in the middle of 4 trees so it kinda looks majestic in its location.
7. A different place I would put my art work at is maybe at a museum in like a glass crate.Â
Two trees. Oak and Cedar. Gainesville and Mejdlaya. Growing yet eternal. A lasting friendship.
Letter to the Mayor
Dear Mayor Lauren Poe,
My name is Terrence Ho. I’m an 8th grade student at P.K. Yonge, and I am designing a work of installation art to represent the friendship between Gainesville and Mejdlaya.
I’d like to propose large twin sculptures, approximately seven feet high, seven feet wide, and two feet deep – just taller than a human being to inspire awe while remaining approachable. These wooden sculpture, in the form of a cedar tree (to represent Mejdlaya) and an oak tree (to represent Gainesville), would embody the growing relationship between Medjlaya and Gainesville that began in 2015. Please see the attached drawings for more detail. The sculpture would be fashioned from pressure treated live oak/pine or cedar to evoke the native flora of Gainesville/Mejdlaya while also being strong and resistant to weather.
Ideally, the sculptures would be installed prominently in both Gainesville and Mejdlaya. The Sister Cities Pavilion in front of City Hall in Gainesville would be a perfect location. The proposed location in Mejdlaya is yet to be determined. Please see the attached visualizations.
I hope my artwork will inspire citizens of Gainesville to learn about Mejdlaya and Lebanon. I hope that it will be a physical reminder of our friends in other countries. When someone looks at it, I hope they think about how big the world is, and how we have friends on the other side of the world that want to meet us and share their culture with us. It will bring our cities closer together, it will celebrate our friendship, and it will make the world at once more wondrous and more accessible to the people of Mejdlaya and Gainesville.
When I put all of my Ideas together I got a community garden for Qalqilya and Florida and how they became sister cities. It would have facts about Qalqilya and Florida with a picture of an alligator eating an orange the orange would represent Qalqilya and the alligator would represent Florida.
Letter to the Mayor
Dear Lauren Poe,
My name is Josephine Bella Mckenna, I am a student at P.K Yonge we are doing a project about Qalqilya and Florida united. My design is a Community garden.we could put it in Depot park in Gainesville Florida and put it in Qalqilya were nothing is built. they will be in to spots just like friendship bracelets.I was thinking we could use cement, flower seeds, soil, and bricks. Can we please do it it is a great idea and people would think to take a vacation.
My inspiration for my piece of artwork comes from my parents and my teacher. My teacher helps and encourages me a lot. The parts of my artwork that represent Florida and Rzeszow are the symbols on the front. The desired effect of my piece of artwork is somebody looking at it to realize it has a connection between two cities that helped each other out a lot. My sculpture is 5 feet tall, 3 feet by 4 feet wide and weighs 200 lbs. It’s made of rock and metal and it’s shaped like an airplane engine. why I chose it to be rock and metal is because it’s sturdy safe and strong. It’s primary location is to be around the park that’s at Gainesville City Hall. It enhances it’s surroundings by being beautiful, orderly and shows the connections between Gainesville and other cities. If it cannot be placed there it can go in Depot Park where a lot of people go and can see it.
Letter to the Mayor
Dear Mayor Lauren Poe,
My name is Juan Mateo, I am a sixth-grade student at PK Yonge. I’m designing a piece of artwork that represents a friendship between Gainesville and Rzeszow.
I want to have a piece of my artwork placed outside of City Hall, because lots of people go there and because it’s the city center. My inspiration for my artwork is from my teachers, my parents, and one of the most important fact is that Rzeszow is one of the biggest airports in the world. That’s why I designed it to look like an airplane engine. I want people to view the artwork and understand the cooperation between two cities inspired me to make this. I want the people who see my artwork to be inspired to build artwork that represents other cities that have made connections with each other. The holes in my artwork-the alligator head on one side and the pinwheel on the other-represent Gainesville and Rzeszow. My piece of artwork is 5 ft tall and 3 by 4 ft wide and weighs 200 lbs. It’s made of concrete and I chose this because it’s easier to use a mold in concreye than in metal.
My piece of artwork is built for safety and strength in balance. I want my piece of artwork to be put in front of Gainesville City Hall, but if it can’t go there. I want it to be put in Depot Park or some other public park, because I would like tons of people to see it and be inspired by it. My piece of artwork would show the relationship between Gainesville and Rzeszow it will also add more beauty to Gainesville with more artwork. I believe it will affect the future by encouraging people to work together to solve problems, so that people can become friends with people from different cultures and different parts of the world and bring more peace to the world.
Hello, my name is Astrid. I want to have my artwork put in front of the Gainesville Town Hall my inspiration comes from me wanting to have a statue built that will make other students who pass by Town Hall I know that anything is possible my thing is about two-thirds the size of a regular human tall it’s supposed to be 4 ft call and it has great balance my primary location is it to be in front of town hall but if it cannot go there it can go somewhere in Depot Park I want my design to be built because it will encourage kids to see that a kid at 11 year old had a statue built and he actually made it so they’ll know that anything is possibleÂ
I want to make a tunnel that you can walk through from Gainesville to Duhok. At the end of the tunnel it will look like you’re in Duhok even through you’re still in Gainesville, I think it would be fun and creative that way. It will be made of strong wood painted sky blue, on the sides will be text saying Duhok and they will be white. HOW BIG, WHERE.
I want to make it as an entrance to UF, so when you finish through the tunnel, you on UF grounds.
